DuRoBo Krono Is a New Smartphone-Size E-Reader With AI

Dutch company DuRoBo has a new e-reader called the Krono that it’s showcasing at CES 2026 and boasts a smartphone-like form factor, along with a built-in AI assistant, the company said in a press release on Tuesday.

The Krono is meant to be a «ePaper focus hub» for reading, ideation and music listening, the company said. It features a «smart dial» along the left side, allowing people to easily navigate through pages or adjust settings. Krono’s AI assistant, named Libby AI, can answer questions and «support deeper thinking.» Krono ships with Android 15, meaning it has access to the Google Play Store.

The Krono is being released in an e-reader market heavily dominated by Amazon. The retail giant’s Kindle e-reader platform is wildly popular, holding 72% market share. It’s followed by Rakuten’s Kobo e-readers, at 10% market share. Krono is likely trying to differentiate itself from other e-readers by having a more smartphone-like form factor, acting as a second screen in backpacks or pockets. AI integration, along with Android support, also enhances its value.

The Krono was successfully Kickstarted last year and is available to purchase now for 240 euros ($280). Products will ship later this month. Actually, several products from CES 2026 have already hit store shelves and are worth checking out.
