Verizon Locks Prices for 3 Years, Offers Free Phones for Trade-Ins

Prices on everyday things are in flux, whether from tariffs, unexpected phone line increases or even costly take-out food. Verizon is hoping that some stability — sweetened with free device trade-ins and free satellite text messaging — will convince new and existing customers to stick with its service for a while.

Lock in today’s prices for three years

Starting Thursday, Verizon is implementing a three-year price lock on its MyPlan mobile and HomePlan home internet accounts. The price lock applies automatically to all customers; it’s not a program requiring a separate enrollment or contract.

If someone switches plans, the three-year price guarantee renews with the new plan. That also applies to individual lines — bumping a line with an Unlimited Plus plan to an Unlimited Ultimate plan, for example, resets the three-year counter on that line.

Although the price lock appears designed to keep people with the carrier, Verizon representatives said it’s not meant to shackle customers to the service; there are no fees or penalties related to the three-year span if someone cancels a line or account.

Free phone when you trade in selected phone models

In addition to the price-lock window, Verizon is offering a free phone when customers trade in «any phone, any condition from Apple, Google or Samsung.» For MyHome plans, home internet routers are included as part of the package.

This enticement applies to existing customers as well as new ones. For current subscribers, the trade-in phone must be active on the account for at least 60 days before purchasing a new device.

The model of the phone offered depends on how much you’re paying for the plan it’s tied to:

    • On Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Welcome plans paying a minimum of $65 per month (with Auto Pay): iPhone 16E, Galaxy S24 FE or Pixel 9A.
    • On Unlimited Ultimate or Unlimited Plus plans paying a minimum of $80 per month (with Auto Pay): iPhone 16, Galaxy S25 or Pixel 9.
    • On Unlimited Ultimate plans paying a minimum of $90 per month (with Auto Pay): iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, Galaxy S25 Plus or Pixel 9 Pro.

The trade-in promotional credit applied over 36 months is up to $1,000.

Free satellite text messaging and more perks

Verizon is also guaranteeing free satellite text messaging on any MyPlan for devices capable of using the feature, demonstrating that the mobile space race is heating up.

Apple currently provides satellite messaging as a free service, and T-Mobile is testing its Starlink-affiliated service without charge. Still, both companies have left the door open to making satellite texting a paid subscription in the future.

Verizon also states that customers on either MyPlan or MyHome plans can save over 40% on five popular streaming services. And those who bundle MyPlan with MyHome services can save an additional $15 per month.
