The Game Awards kicked off Thursday with a massive reveal: a new Star Wars game that goes back to the days of the Old Republic and will be helmed by one of the industry’s most prominent directors.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a new game set in the titular Old Republic, which existed thousands of years before the Star Wars films. Game Awards host Geoff Keighley described it as a single-player RPG, directed by Casey Hudson, the director of 2003’s Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series.

The trailer for Fate of the Old Republic, however, didn’t show much beyond a new character, who appears to be a Jedi. The last shot of the trailer shows the character’s face grimacing in anger as we hear a lightsaber turn on and see a bright blue light illuminate her face.
Do we have a Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic release date?
There is no release date yet for Fate of the Old Republic.
Is Fate of the Old Republic a remake of Knights of the Old Republic?
No, but the game is made up of members of that development team, according to an interview with Hudson at StarWars.com.
«When we developed the original KOTOR, we wanted to create a definitive Star Wars experience — crafting an adventure that consisted of all the things we dreamed of doing as Star Wars fans,» Hudson said. «Now, 25 years after we started work on that game, our aspirations are equally ambitious.» He said Fate of the Old Republic will deliver on player agency and Star Wars immersion at the heart of KOTOR.
