Skyrim Anniversary Edition Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 With Exclusive Zelda Gear

Skyrim turned 14 years old last month, and if there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that Skyrim will be released on any new gaming system. Nintendo released the Switch 2 this year, so here comes The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition for it.

Skyrim for the Switch 2 is available in the Nintendo eShop as of Tuesday for $60. This edition comes with the base game and its three expansions: Dawnguard, Dragonborn and Hearthfire. It’s compatible with the original Switch, too.

To make this edition even more special for the new console, there’s exclusive Nintendo in-game content from the Legend of Zelda franchise, including the Master Sword, Hylian Shield and Champion’s Tunic.

Along with the Zelda elements, the Switch 2 version of the game will feature enhanced resolution compared to the original Switch version, as well as faster loading times, Joy-Con 2 mouse support, motion controls, Amiibo support and other performance optimizations. Players can also access the Skyrim Creations Club, an in-game store that lets you buy content for the game, similar to mods found on PC versions of the game. The Creations Club has access to new items, quests, weapons, armor, spells and dungeons.

Those who own the Anniversary Edition on the original Switch can download the Switch 2 version for free. If you have the base edition of the original Switch game, you can get the Anniversary Upgrade for $20 to download the newest version for the Switch 2.

While there will be some diehard Skyrim fans excited to play their favorite game on the newest console, there’s still the question of when the new Elder Scrolls game will be released. Todd Howard, Bethesda Game Studios’ creative chief and the director of Elder Scrolls 6, said in an interview with GQ last month that the newest entry in the franchise is «still a long way off.»

Elder Scrolls 6 was first revealed back in 2018, but Bethesda has yet to provide any new info about the game since then, other than it’s still in development. Elder Scrolls fans are holding onto hope that next year, on the game’s 15th anniversary, they will finally learn more about the next adventure in the world of Tamriel.
