New Features Make NotebookLM More Flexible and Easier to Use

NotebookLM is getting a set of new features that will make this, one of the best AI tools out there, even better. It’s already a well-rounded and powerful tool, but Google tends to roll out a series of smaller feature updates that, together, make for a sizable upgrade, increasing its flexibility and ease of use.

It doesn’t really matter what you’re using it for; NotebookLM lets you get the most out of your data and transform it into a variety of outputs. You can turn a series of your scribbled notes into a podcast, video, infographic and more with the click of a button.

Earlier this month, Google released Cinematic Video Overviews for NotebookLM, combining the best of Google’s artificial intelligencetools. Using Gemini, Nano Banana Pro and Veo 3, Cinematic Video Overviews are a supercharged version of the original feature that adds rich animations and style to your data sources.

Here’s what else is new in NotebookLM.

Slide revisions

Google introduced a highly sought-after feature for users of NotebookLM for slide decks. Previously, once a slide was created, there wasn’t much you could do with it — it was just a static image. Now, that’s changed. You can make revisions to slides by simply instructing what you’d like changed.

The feature lets you review your slides and request specific changes to as many as you want. Once you have made the edit requests, you can generate a brand new deck, and the changes will be there.

At the moment, you can’t manually edit individual elements with the slides — just regenerate them — but this is one step closer to that likely future.

The ability for slide revisions is available to all users over 18.

New infographic styles

If you like visualizing your data, you might enjoy playing with NotebookLM’s ability to create infographics. Now there are 10 different options to choose from, so you can nail the look and format for the story you’re trying to tell. Options include sketch note, clay, instructional and more. If you don’t specify a style, NotebookLM will automatically choose one based on your sources.

These new infographic styles are available to all users over 18.

Quizzes and flash card updates

A few updates to quizzes and flashcards improve the overall experience. Individual quiz questions and flashcards can be deleted, progress is saved across all sessions and you can mark individual questions as «got it» or «missed it» so you know where to refocus when you return to the quiz for round two. Improvements have also been made to the results page after you complete the quiz for a better viewing experience.

Updates to quizzes and flashcards are now available to all users.

New file support for sources and export

NotebookLM supports a variety of file types to make as sources, and it’s gaining another option: EPUB. The standard open-source file type for ebooks can now be uploaded as a source, bringing in an incredibly helpful new option for working with the AI tool.

In addition, slide decks can now be exported to the PPTX format, so decks generated by NotebookLM can be opened in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Create right from the chat

NotebookLM now lets you create artifacts directly from the chat. This means you can create audio overviews, reports, infographics and more based on your existing chat with Gemini without having to manually open the Studio tab.
