Are You Qualified to Claim a Share of Apple’s $250 Million AI iPhone Settlement? How to Determine Eligibility

If you purchased an iPhone 16 or an iPhone 15 at launch, you might be entitled to a portion of the settlement funds from a class‑action suit against Apple. The dispute centers on the Apple Intelligence capabilities that were teased at the launch – features that missed their promised release date but were later highlighted during WWDC 2026.

Last month Apple settled a shareholder case, agreeing to disburse $250 million to customers who bought the iPhone 16 and certain iPhone 15 models within a defined window. The claim alleged that Apple misrepresented AI functionalities that were not available when the devices shipped. Payments are expected to range from $25 to $95 per qualifying handset.

In comments to Gfaloe Managing Editor David Lumb, an Apple spokesperson said, «Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.»

Why was there a lawsuit over Apple Intelligence?

Apple’s marketing for the new iPhone 16 line highlighted AI‑enhanced experiences, such as a smarter Siri that could act as an intelligent assistant. When the phones launched, Apple Intelligence was not yet functional; its first features only arrived with iOS 18.1, roughly five weeks later.

The proposed settlement states, «Apple allegedly saturated the market with deceptive ads, inducing consumers to purchase iPhones based on the promise of certain enhanced Siri features.»

Who can claim a portion of the $250 million?

Customers who bought any of the following devices between June 10 2024 and March 29 2025 qualify for a settlement payment:

    • iPhone 16
    • iPhone 16E
    • iPhone 16 Plus
    • iPhone 16 Pro
    • iPhone 16 Pro Max
    • iPhone 15 Pro
    • iPhone 15 Pro Max

The inclusion of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max stems from their hardware being capable of running Apple Intelligence features. Roughly 36 million customers are estimated to be eligible.

    How to claim your share

At this stage, you simply have to wait.

Under the settlement terms, Apple will supply a list of qualified customers and their contact details to a settlement administrator. Once the data is verified, the firm Verita will dispatch email and postal notices directing recipients to a settlement website (which has not yet been launched). Claimants will have 90 days from the notice date to submit a claim.

    When will payments be made?

According to the agreement, Apple must provide the affected‑customer information within five days of the settlement’s approval, scheduled for June 17 2026. After verification, a 45‑day notice period begins to inform potential claimants of their eligibility.

The actual disbursement of funds will occur within a 60‑calendar‑day window after final details—such as exclusions and objections—are settled. This means the first checks or direct deposits are expected sometime after September 2026, depending on court timelines and any extensions.
