If you were hoping to slip on a pair of Apple’s smart glasses soon, you’ll need to be patient a bit longer.
Gurman writes that the glasses are a pivotal element of Apple’s product roadmap. Insiders close to Tim Cook say the outgoing CEO is a staunch champion of the effort and treats it as his top priority. John Ternus, slated to succeed Cook in September, is described as the driving force behind the initiative, having overseen the product team for the past two years.
The upcoming glasses are said to showcase design touches such as «oval‑shaped cameras, distinctive colours, and a variety of frame styles» to differentiate them from rivals. «Over time, Apple believes the glasses could evolve into a health device and eventually incorporate augmented‑reality technologies that enhance visual perception,» Gurman added.
In April, Gurman reported that Apple was evaluating several frame options, including a large rectangular shape reminiscent of Ray‑Ban Wayfarers, a slimmer rectangular version, a larger oval or circular frame, and a smaller oval or circular alternative.
Research from Counterpoint Research released in March indicates that the smart‑glasses market is still nascent. The firm said the sector grew 139% year‑over‑year in the second half of 2025 compared with 2024.
The devices are expected to house cameras for video and photo capture, microphones and speakers for calls, notifications and music, and a multimodal AI capable of handling requests through Siri.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
