Anthropic Expands Claude Design with New Admin Role and GitHub Integration

Anthropic’s Claude Code transformed the AI landscape last year by dramatically simplifying code creation. Users no longer required deep knowledge of programming languages to develop apps, websites, or widgets; a simple description in natural language was enough for the AI assistant to generate the desired output. Now the platform is branching into more visual and design-oriented tasks.

An update to Claude Design, announced on Wednesday, aims to streamline the incorporation of design and visual assets for Claude users. Launched in beta in April, the latest enhancements make it easier to keep AI‑generated content consistent with a company’s brand standards.

A new administrator role will allow a designated person to configure the «design system,» essentially a brand kit that can be applied across projects rather than used haphazardly. Claude will automatically verify compliance. Users can now import GitHub repositories, design files, and raw uploads directly into their design system.

Claude Code can now pull elements from your designs and vice versa. By invoking the «/design» command, you can bring design assets into the coding terminal. The two functions are synchronized, enabling you to retrieve the latest components from each side without unnecessary back‑and‑forth.

It’s been a hectic week for Anthropic, and it’s only Wednesday. The company had to withdraw its newest AI model, Fable 5, after the US government ordered a restriction on access for non‑US citizens. The export‑control directive was issued over the weekend following the discovery of a «jailbreak» that bypassed the model’s cybersecurity safeguards. To comply, Anthropic removed the model for all users, as reported by Gfaloe this week.

This incident adds to the escalating tension between the US government and AI developers. Anthropic publicly declined a Department of Defense request to use Claude in certain surveillance and fully autonomous weapon scenarios. Meanwhile, OpenAI, a major competitor behind ChatGPT, quickly stepped in to secure a Pentagon contract. Yet many questions about AI’s role in military operations remain unresolved.

Additionally, Anthropic faced a lawsuit this week from a group of Claude subscribers who claim the company misrepresented usage limits for its paid plans.
